Digital Printing for Artists
نویسنده
چکیده
Artists have different parameters to, for example, colour scientists, for considering the quality of the finished image. An analysis of the work is based on an artist's conception of the work and a subjective assessment of print surface, colour and image quality, which although may appear to be based on the same criteria as a reproduction, the impact on the viewer is quite different. This presentation uses The International Digital Miniature Print Portfolio as a case study, which illustrates issues relating to: Implications of printing digital files from unknown sources; generating, saving of images from unknown sources; file tagging; converting unrecognisable generic colour profiles; bespoke colour profiles for artists' handmade papers and mouldmade papers; compatibility of paper and ink. As a result of working on the portfolio, a method for optimising the print workflow has included: Lightfast testing on a variety of papers; bespoke ICC profiles for particular papers; a best practice for artists to generate, save and print images.

The development of artists' novel colour palettes for inkjet printing
In this changing environment in which the artist and designer has access to a wide range of digital imaging tools and technologies, that on first glance, are dedicated to the creation of colour mixtures, why is the digital interface and colour outcome often disappointing? It appears that hardware, software tools and methods for digital printing are not necessarily suited to the specific require...

The motivation for this research is based on how artists mix and print colour by traditional means (painting and printmaking) and how these differ from colour picker tools, slider bars and methods developed for digital printing, and whether it is possible to incorporate both? Artists have been expert at mixing colour for centuries, yet although the artist and designer has access to a wide range...
متن کاملTitle: Blueprints for colour mixing: Towards 2.5D textural printing
Introduction As a result of current advances in inkjet colour management and halftoning (Lee, 2005; Morovik, 2012) a significant impact of inkjet printing has meant that the artist can now take for granted highquality colour and resolution in their printed images. Now that the digital printing machine has reached a level where it is seemingly little more than a highly sophisticated image reprod...
متن کاملCustomizing digital printing for fine art practice
The presentation will demonstrate how through alternative methods of digital print production the Centre for Fine Print Research (CFPR) is developing methodologies for digital printing that attempt to move beyond standard reproductive print methods. Profiling is used for input and output hardware, along with bespoke profiling for fine art printmaking papers. Examples of artist’s work, and examp...
متن کاملA Reassessment of Past Colour Collotype Printing Achievements as a Model for Current Digital, Archival Printing Practice
Colour collotype "at it's best", according to Kirby (1988) "is sufficiently good enough to reproduce both artwork and colour photography with a quality that truly approaches original in tone and hue". By examining some of achievements and precedents set by the now near defunct collotype industry, this paper will outline some of the principles pursued by the Centre for Fine Print Research at the...
